Moskva-Kassiopeya
"Beyond The Infinite / Encounters"
Moskva-Kassiopeya delights with his fresh approach to electro on his first Array Recordings release.
Russian musician Alexander Zharikov, AKA Moskva-Kassiopeya, describes his project as 'a unique blend of pure 80's electronic sound and modern electro united by science-fiction concept of retro-futurism'. He's not wrong.
Named after a 1974 Soviet Sci-Fi comedy film, Moskva-Kassiopeya merges a Soviet-era Sci-Fi aesthetic with a French electro influence from artists like Justice, Daft Punk and Kavinsky.
In the past year he's played headline shows, supported the likes of Com Truise and scored a video game; his diversity as an artist is as impressive as his development since his first release, 'Interstate', in 2012. On 'Beyond The Infinite/Encounters', Moskva-Kassiopeya focuses his sound into a cohesive and consistent record that packs a punch.
The luscious synth pads on opening track 'Beyond The Infinite' glisten and shine before being dominated by a powerful four-to-the-floor and an impeccably heavy drop. 'Encounters' is more rhythmically varied and makes fantastic use of glitchy fx and a stabby synth bass. Moskva-Kassiopeya's terrific production and sound design effortlessly captures the listener's attention, allowing him to take them on a celestial journey through his music.
